The team at SOENECS have over 20 years’ experience  in the industry and are able to bring a wealth of experience at local, regional, and national government level. 

David Greenfield
managing director

Dr David Greenfield is also a Visiting Professor of Circular Economy at the University of Brighton, Vice President of the Circular Economy Institute, and President of the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM). 

Dr David Greenfield’s experience spans both enterprise leadership and thought leadership in sustainability and policy development. After leading a 9-year national waste and resources program for local government, funded by DEFRA and BIS, which included the creation of the Waste Information Network (WIN), used by 98% of UK local authorities, David moved into broader advisory and commercial roles. David has served as the lead author for Circular Economy Routemaps for Brighton & Hove, Canary Wharf, Lincolnshire, West Midlands, and Exeter University NICER CE-Hub, among other projects. These roles demonstrate his expertise in embedding circular economy principles into urban planning and infrastructure on a policy level.

Ryan Woodard
Research Lead

Dr Ryan Woodard is a Waste Management and Circular Economy Specialist with over 25 years’ experience. He delivers practical solutions to enhance resource efficiency and circularity, combining research, policy insight, and hands-on consultancy to advance circular economy initiatives globally. Ryan has led over 50 projects, ranging from evaluating waste flows into UK landfill sites in the late 1990s to developing community-based solutions for waste challenges in South African township communities. He has worked extensively with local authorities on recycling and behaviour change programs, assessing impact and informing strategy.

Recent projects include Lead Researcher on Arts Council England – commissioned research assessing circular economy networks and the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management Presidential Report, which examined six material streams currently being lost, including wool, lithium, and seafood shells.

Ryan also specialises in commercial waste, with experience publishing peer-reviewed research on business recycling policies globally, evaluating regulatory compliance, and collaborating with SUEZ to develop a waste model integrating data from approximately 40,000 businesses. He is also Research Lead for the South-East England Hub 4 Circularity, supporting industrial symbiosis under the EU-funded United Circles project.
Ryan has authored over 100 publications and supervised or examined PhDs on global waste management. He was previously Course Leader for the MSc Environmental Assessment and Management at the University of Brighton where is an Honorary Fellow in the School of Applied Sciences.

Jessica Mével
Circular Solutions Lead

Jessica Mével is a passionate circular economy specialist fluent in English, French, and Spanish, with over eight years of experience in sustainability, focusing on circular economy initiatives, start-ups, and recycling. Her experience includes working with private waste company First Mile, and three years coordinating and managing projects at global circular economy leader, the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.

Jessica leads SOENECS operations in Australia and serves as the organisation’s Global Circular Solutions Lead. She combines technical expertise with strategic insight, overseeing high-quality project delivery and providing clear, actionable advice to clients. Jessica excels in project management, ensuring timely and cost-effective outcomes, while also mentoring colleagues and fostering team capability. 

Piers Morrill
Circular Economy Researcher

Piers (PJ) is a circular economy researcher at SOENECS, applying his engineering expertise and the principles of sustainable life cycle thinking to help organisations design for reuse, minimise waste, and reduce emissions across product systems. His work centres on conducting comprehensive life cycle assessments across multiple industries and translating their findings into practical, actionable strategies that balance sustainability ambition with operational feasibility.

He holds a First-Class BEng in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Sussex, where he developed strong technical skills in finite element analysis (FEA) using ANSYS, CAD (SolidWorks), MATLAB and C++, alongside core knowledge in kinematics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and materials science.

After completing his bachelor’s degree, he undertook a sustainability engineering internship in which he developed a life cycle assessment model for vaccine refrigeration. This project sparked his interest in the sustainability of product systems and their deep interrelationship with design. His hands-on experience as a Design Engineer further provides him with valuable insight into the complexity behind product and system development. Combined with his understanding of circular economy principles, he is well positioned to support organisations seeking to transition toward more sustainable practices.
